Way back in 1983 when I first got MTV, this song "Working Girl" by The Members got regular rotation. Good song, pretty mainstream and pop, reminded me of Dexy's Midnight Runners. Here it is, years later, and being on a new wave message board steered me toward their entire 1983 album. And boy was I shocked to find that, other than the hit single, this album sounds like early Spandau Ballet, Haircut 100 and even shades of early Duran Duran at times. Wow. Never expected this band to be a new wave band (they were originally more of the punk variety on their earlier album). In fact, 4 songs on this album are produced by Martin Rushent, the man responsible for the hugely popular Human League electro pop album Dare! This one is definitely a must for your 80s collection, however, do yourself a favor and get the CD titled Uprhythm, Downbeat instead. It has all the songs on this release (although in a different running order) along with 6 bonus tracks, including an alternate remix of Working Girl.
