Description
Songwriter, musician and music producer Don Nix is a key figure in Southern Rock, R&B and Blues. Originally a member of the Mar-Keys (which later morphed into Booker T and the MGs), he was instrumental in the creation of the trademark "Memphis Sound" and is known for his work at Stax Records. As a producer, arranger, musician, Nix worked with such artists as Furry Lewis, Freddie King, Albert King, Delaney and Bonnie, Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Leon Russell, Charlie Musselwhite, John Mayall, Jeff Beck, Brian May, and Eric Clapton. With George Harrison he collaborated in the production of the Concert for Bangladesh. His song 'Going Down' became a Blues standard and was covered by Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, and many others. Absent from the record industry through most of the '80s, in recent years Nix has relocated to Nashville and began writing and producing again. He published a book about his experiences titled 'Road Stories & Recipes'. For 'Going Down' he re-recorded many of his classic tracks with the help of a star-studded cast, including: musicians such as Brian May, Steve Cropper, Leslie West, John Mayall, Bonnie Bramlett, and Tony Joe White.
